Who am I?

— a somewhat reclusive forty-nine-year-old biologist-turned-professional athlete-turned writer with the terminal genetic disease Cystic fibrosis. I love to learn new things and have worked in fields ranging from biochemistry to marine biology, hold two advanced degrees — one in ecology and animal behavior as well as environmental medicine and toxicology — and became a certified EMT. Science and nature are my passion and I’ve swum with sharks and jellyfish, been chased by a bear, nursed a Canada goose back to health, dabbled in dog agility, and trained and competed horses for most of my life. I enjoy pushing myself physically — completing a sixty- mile forced march three months after a second double lung transplant and rucking a marathon with a twenty-pound pack six months post. I’m also a mother of two who likes to rock climb and hike, while my quiet time is often spent reading medical journals or perusing the history of warfare. In general, I’ve had one heck of an incredibly full life and I’m not done yet! I write about my experiences, my dreams, my nightmares, and my pain. I hope my books educate and inspire others.
